For those that I haven't met in Phase 1, my name is Rob Martin, and you might have noticed my name as a candidate for the Board of Directors in the letter we received a few weeks ago. I thought it would be a good idea to give a quick introduction to let everyone know a bit about me.
I've lived in the East Market since July last year, after moving to the neighbourhood from the Glebe. I work as a Consultant with IBM, and I would say that it is my business background that has lead me to be interested in a position on the Board of Directors here. I also volunteer regularly with the Sierra Club here in Ottawa, and in my hometown of London, ON I regularly attended Board of Directors meetings with a non-profit I worked for called the Thames Region Ecological Association (TREA).
I also like to stay pretty active; I make use of the gym here fairly often, plus in the summer I play soccer and softball and ice/ball hockey in the winter. I am also training to run the Ottawa Half-marathon in May, so if anyone is looking for someone to run with, I am looking to do an 8-mile run about once a week plus a "workout" which would be intervals or hill-repeats. I like to swim too, but my technique is pretty bad that people twice my age seem to have no problem lapping me :).
If anyone has any questions, please email me at pjstock42@yahoo.ca and I would be happy to respond; I look forward to meeting more of you on Thursday.
Hi Rob,
Thank you for allowing your candidacy for election to the Board of Directors of Phase 1.
I understand that Ms. Saloni Negi has also allowed her name to stand for election.
As there are still unresolved builder/Tarion deficiencies to be aggresively debated (since 2003), I believe that Ms. Negi would be best suited to represent our Board.
She has owned her unit since the opening of Phase 1, in 2003. She is inquisitive, devoted, resourceful, understanding of people's choices, persistent and thorough. She is not a person who will be easily provoked to agree or sign onto something without having obtained a detailed analysis of all the facts beforehand. She understands and respects people's choices. I believe that she can easily nurtur the sense of community within our building.
Also, perhaps trivial, but former Board Members mostly came from the X01 units ... Chris Morrissey, Denis Proulx, Kenny Golanowski, Brian Pirie... and now your candidacy.
Hélène
My response doesn't seem to have been posted. Re-submitting.
Thank you to everyone that participated in the election and the AGM; it was a pleasure to meet all of you!
Thank you also to Saloni for her participation in the election, it is great to have multiple strong candidates contributing to the democratic process and allowing new ideas to be heard.
I would like to say that I look forward to the challenge of being a Board member and contributing to positive growth within the East Market community. If anyone has any questions for me personally please shoot me an email.
Thanks, Rob
